This course will allow you to develop a collection of art pieces, handmade cards, gift wrap, designs to translate onto bags, mugs, tiles, etc., your own personalised fabrics or the most lovely gift for a special friend or family member celebrating a momentous occasion.

Here is your chance to take a 3 day creative mini break in the lovely mountains of Central Portugal whilst exploring and developing your art skills using mixed media collage with fabrics, papers, various cards, threads, yarns and also found objects.

Experimenting with paint, dye, print, and stitch, you will decorate a variety of papers, card, cloth, yarns and other surfaces. These will form your own personal stock of coloured, textured and patterned media with which you will explore the exciting possibilities of working in collage and assemblage, there will also be an opportunity to use other techniques such as photo transfer and stencilling.

You will be guided by resident artist Nikola Orpen through all the steps of colour, composition and assembly and will conclude the course with your own personal collection of collaged samples and artworks.

The price includes refreshments all day, all basic materials and with a donation for a vegetarian lunch each day.

Day 1.

The first day will be spent exploring different media where you will begin to build up your own repertoire of surface pattern techniques and a stock of materials to work with.

This will include an introduction to colour, mark making and print with paint, dye and other media on cloth and various papers, card and yarns.
A day for sampling and finding out what works and does not work, so will be free form and exploratory.

You will be encouraged to combine different techniques together and will have a large range of art materials at hand to work with and get to know and experiment with.

Day 2.

`
Using your experiments and creations from day 1 you will choose and refine your collection of media and begin to compose your artworks.

You may also decide to create more pieces that you feel worked well from day 1.

You will be encouraged to work in a series to allow you to ‘mix and match’ whilst choosing elements that work well together.

Day 3.

This is the chance for you to focus on your potential finished pieces and create your collages by juxtaposing different combinations of the elements you created in the previous 2 days.

By the end of day 3 you will be able to leave with a series of collages and samples and LOTS of knowledge to continue your work  at home.
