ART TEXTILE COURSES

Texatelier runs courses mainly in our lovely studio in stunning rural Central Portugal,
& more occasionally S.W. France & the U.K.

This year we are 16 years old and have run more than 80 successful projects with folk from all over the world!

We offer:-
Full day workshops, 2/3 day courses and week-long courses.
Also bespoke courses can be designed for particular needs and likes at any time of the year.

Currently our course range is:-

NATURAL DYEING WITH PLANT COLOURS

Learn the importance of mordants, how to make them at home & create lots of beautiful colours
from just 4 different dye vats.
Dye cloth and yarn for your home projects and give pre loved clothes a new lease of life!

BOTANICAL ECO PRINTING ON CLOTH AND PAPER

Achieve stunning prints from flowers and leaves with steam bundling.
Create scarves, pre loved clothing and fabrics with extraordinary botanical prints and colours.

NATURAL INDIGO DYEING WITH SHIBORI RESIST PATTERNING

Using hand stitch, clamping, wrapping and binding, create your own beautiful scarf and exquisite samples in this day workshop.

RUST DYEING USING TANNINS AND OXIDES WITH INDIGO OVER DYEING

Create incredibly textured patterns on fabric by combining tannins with the power of oxides. Using shibori techniques you will create prints and patterns to amaze and delight and with indigo over dyeing the patterns go to different unexpected levels.

CLAY PASTE RESIST PATTERNING WITH INDIGO DYEING

Create unique patterns with clay resist and natural indigo dye on fabrics, using stencil, block printing and directly painting on cloth with the clay paste to achieve fabulous resist patterning when over dyeing in the indigo vat.

MIXED MEDIA TEXTILE COLLAGE

Create a stock of your own personalised collage papers and fabrics with block, stencil printing and hand painting. With these you will make art cards and art works and discover the joy of collage.

FABRIC COLLAGE WITH STITCH AND PHOTO TRANSFER

Celebrate a special event or person by creating a collage piece on cloth using fabric, hand and machine stitching, found objects and photo transfer. This may be a gift for a loved one or for you to remember the occasion/person or an art work on your wall.

BATIK AND WAX RESIST ON FABRIC AND PAPER

Using hot wax and specialist batik tools (jtantings & jtaps) you will create pieces that hold interest and depth with layered colours. The wax acts as a resist whilst you dip dye or paint colour on to the cloth. Lovely luminous patterned silks, scarves, cloth and papers will be the outcomes of this workshop.

BLOCK, STENCIL PRINTING AND PAINT ON CLOTH AND PAPER

You will be guided in how to make your own simple and effective printing tools to create fabulous prints on a variety of fabrics and papers. During the day you will be able to print and paint onto fabric for your sewing projects/ scarves/ pre loved garments/ create cards and wrapping paper or simply create beautiful artworks.

NUNO FELTING

Using pre dyed lovely soft merino fleece and a light open weave fabric such as muslin you will create a stunning nuno felted scarf during the course of the day.

FELTED JEWELLERY

Create fabulous, funky original jewellery out of felted merino fleece, threads and beads. Lovely necklaces, bracelets, earrings and brooches that will delight can be had from attending this day workshop.

BUTTON JEWELLERY

Using old vintage buttons come and create necklaces, bracelets, earrings and brooches by using wire & beads to assemble them. A fun and exciting workshop that will have you bejewelled in a new collection of individual and ingenious one off jewellery.
